Join us to complete your relicensure needs met through online and on site learning options. Options include Suicide Prevention training, Trauma Focused Interventions, Positive Behavior Interventions, Meeting the Needs of ESL Learners, Reading Strategies, Working with Indigenous Youth, and fulfilling your Cultural Competency standards. 

Classes begin at $20 a session and are 20% off for member district staff and free for SWMetro employees.

Recognizing Early Earning Signs of Mental Illness in Children and Adolescents
Relicensure Week

Learn about mental illnesses in students, the impact on a student’s success in school, and how parents and teachers can work together as allies to support these students. This 2-hour class meets the continuing education requirement for teachers in "Key Warning signs of mental illness and suicide prevention (MI)". This class is being hosted virtually by NAMI Minnesota.

Suicide Prevention: Question, Persuade, Refer (Q, P, R) Training
Relicensure Week

Learn the three steps anyone can take to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training program in the United States, and more than one million adults have been trained in classroom settings in 48 states. This 1.5 hour class is for members of the community over the age of 16 who want to learn best practices in suicide prevention. This training meets the "Key warning signs mental illness and suicide prevention" licensure requirement. This virtual training is hosted by NAMI Minnesota.

Supporting English Language/Multi Language Writers (K-8)
Relicensure Week

Participants will learn The Hochman Method of writing instruction, as presented from the book The Writing Revolution. This approach provides a clear method for teaching writing and improving written communication skills. Participants will learn strategies, and a process they can bring into their classroom which will help their English Learners and other students grow as communicators. This training qualifies under the "English Language Learners (ELL)" licensure requirements. This virtual training is being hosted by Emily Grove, SWMetro ABE Teacher and Curriculum Consultant.

Intro to Cultural Competency
Relicensure Week

This is an introductory course that will satisfy all eight areas of the Cultural Competency requirement for relicensure as outlined in MN Statute 8710.0310. This course is designed to explore potential bias in racial, cultural, and socioeconomic groups; American Indian and Alaskan native students; religious diversity; gender identity, including transgender students; sexual orientation; language diversity; individuals with disabilities and mental health concerns; and systemic racism. This virtual training is facilitated by Helen Ahearn and Elizabeth Harner, PELSB-certified trainers in the area of Cultural Competency. You must attend both the November 5th and November 12th session to earn your CEU.

Building Inclusive Program Spaces for Indigenous Youth
Relicensure Week

As a youth worker and educator, anything you can do to ensure your own program space is welcoming and safe for Indigenous youth will help reduce their risk for negative outcomes. An inclusive space, representing Indigenous culture and inviting connection with traditions and community, contributes to a much-needed and vital sense of belonging. This training will help you incorporate Indigenous culture into your work. You will develop confidence to create culturally inclusive programming and encourage supportive dialogue. You’ll learn how to draw on Indigenous tradition and culture to better support young people of various tribal connections in your program spaces. You’ll learn about various tools and activity examples you can use. This training meets the "Cultural Competency: American Indian" licensure component. This virtual training is being hosted by Anne LaFrinier Ritchie, Safe Harbor Navigator.
